*Here is a bootleg recording of me playing Jelly Roll Morton's "Black Bottom Stomp"

Trad Jazz Every Night!!*

I am so happy to once again be able to suggest places to go each night of the week to hear live traditional New Orleans jazz music. If you are planning a trip to New Orleans, you may want to call these places ahead of time.

Sundays: You can usually hear me at the Market Cafe (1000 Decatur Street), playing outside with Benny Hardy's New Orleans Knights, from 10:30 to 3:30. Hear the Pfister Sisters at the Marigny Brasserie for brunch. The food is pretty good, too! In the evening, see who's at Preservation Hall. If I were you, I'd see who is going to be there first. If you're lucky, you can catch Shannon Powell or Leroy Jones

Mondays: Jazz Vipers at Spotted Cat (623 Frenchmen Street). They play Friday Nights, too. You'll dig it. Call up Donna's (Corner of Rampart and St. Anne) (504) 596-6914 to see if George French is playing. That's a great show, too.

Tuesdays: Phil Campo is dedicated to traditional New Orleans music and he hires talented people to play with him (7:30-12:15 Tuesdays and Wednesdays, also on Sunday afternoons). That's at the Maison Bourbon, (641 Bourbon Street)

Wednesdays: Don't miss the solo piano performance at noon at the New Orleans Jazz National Historic Park. It's free and you might learn something! I'll see you there!

Thursday: It's a good night to go see Va Va Voom. They have all kinds of fun playing what we call Gypsy Jazz. That's at the Spotted Cat (623 Frenchmen Street), They play Wednesday Nights, too, and I think they start at ten.

Friday: Go to Fritzel's (733 Bourbon) and hear Ryan Burrage. His band plays Monday through Saturday Nights, starting at 8:30 or 9. If you are hungry, you might check out the Palm Court Jazz Cafe (1204 Decatur Street). You might want to call ahead for reservations 504.525.0200. You will usually find me playing piano at Tommy's Wine Bar, from 10pm until 1am.

Saturday: Go back to the New Orleans Jazz National Historic Park for their Saturday Concert series. That's at two in the afternoon. It would be a shame if you didn't hear the Dukes of Dixieland on the Steamboat Natchez while you are in town! Call ahead to make sure you catch us, for we are often on the road! 1-800-233-2628 We usually play Thursday through Saturday nights from 6 until 9. Afterwards, walk over to the Maison Bourbon (641 Bourbon Street) to hear Jamil Sharif and his band. He plays there Thursday through Sunday Nights from 7:30 to 12:15.   Again, I'm at Tommy's Wine Bar at ten, with Tony Seville and the Cadillacs.

As you can see, there are lots of places to hear great traditional New Orleans Jazz every night in New Orleans. If you have seen all of those places and still want more, Check out the following places:

Donna's (Corner of Rampart and St. Anne)

Dragon's Den (435 Esplanade, across from the old Mint.)

D.B.A. (618 on Frenchmen)

Mimi's (2601 Royal Street)

*It's a good idea to call ahead to find out showtimes before showing up at these venues. Also, be warned that some of these clubs do not allow minors. Always remember to tip your bartender and the band for good service!!!
